Last year at Maryville, the Panthers lost an overtime heart breaker to the Scots 26-23. Ferrum will be looking to avenge that loss Saturday, as the Scots come to W.B. Adams Stadium on the Panthers homecoming weekend. Ferrum 4-1 (2-0) will take their high powered offense (Ranked 14th for rushing offense nationally) against one of the nation's top defenses (Ranked # 27th overall defense, and 10th against the rush)
This will be a tough game, but I believe that there are a few areas that will make the difference.
Turnovers- Maryville shows a tendency to cough up the ball. Ferrum has been fairly consistent in this area.
Kicking game- Ferrum has not attempted many field Goals this year, but Clint Slappey is a good kicker, and could be the difference maker.
T.J. Grzesikowski is ranked 3rd. nationally in punting, and will play a key role in the game
Penalties- The fewer of these the better for Ferrum...Of course if Maryville has a few, that's o.k.
Home Crowd- worth 2 points for the Panthers, but Maryville will bring a large fan base.
Ferrum must execute in all areas of their game. They have to create turnovers and capitalize on them, while controlling the time of possession. Ferrum, must intimidate, and not be intimidated.
They must create opportunities, and not wait for Maryville to make a mistake. Ferrum has to take charge of the game from the beginning.
This will be another close one, but I predict another Panther win.
Ferrum 27
Maryville 21
