Nic King Receives Big Green Award

The annual Ferrum College football awards banquet was held Saturday the 28th, to recognize the accomplishments of the Ferrum football program, and to recognize the best of the best on this past years squad.

Every year, one member of the football team is selected to receive the Big Green award. This award is given in honor of 7 former Ferrum football players and a former assistant coach that lost their lives in the Marshall University plane crash. On the wall in the Ferrum trophy room a plaque reads:

"In recognition of these special athletes who perished in the Marshall University Airplane Crash on November 14, 1970. Their accomplishments and dedication to the Ferrum College athletics program will long be remembered by Ferrum College, their families, their friends, and their teammates that shared in the honor of being the 1968 NJCAA National Champions. May they be in God's hands for eternity."

The award is given to the one senior Panther football player who best demonstrates the qualities of courage, hustle, and desire as a role model for his fellow teammates.

This years recipient is Nic King. A 6'1 322lb senior from Virginia Beach, Nic played a pivotal role on the offensive line and has been instrumental in the success of the program during his years as a Panther. Nic was also selected this year to the USA South All Conference 2nd team.
