Don't get me wrong, Ferrum needs to take care of business today against Greensboro. Ferrum needs to start strong, and more importantly finish strong. There has been an appearance of not finishing the job....somehow when things are looking good, there seems to be a tendency to let the opponent get too close for comfort. This is something that I have heard about from more than one Panther fan, and have to agree that there have been a couple of games where the final margin of victory diminished as the game went on. None the less, a win is a win and Ferrum needs to put their energies toward securing a win today against Greensboro.
While this victory over Greensboro is an absolute necessity, The North Carolina Wesleyan @ Christopher Newport game holds strong implications also. The battle of the conference unbeaten. For Ferrum, this will mean that one of the two biggest rivals in the conference will have one loss like the Panthers do. How does this help? Well it brings Ferrum one game closer to contending for the conference championship. In this conference, if you lose once, you will probably need help to win the conference championship. If you lose twice in the conference, your chances are very slim of winning the title.
While Ferrum can only control what they do, any and all help will be appreciated. I predict that Ferrum and Christopher Newport will both win today. This will not get Ferrum to the top of the conference, but it is the step for this week that will take them in the right direction.
Another game to watch is the Averett @ Maryville game. Maryville is also unbeaten in the conference, and hosts the Cougars for homecoming. Both teams have shown well this season, and frankly I had both of these schools finishing mid pack in my predictions. Averett lost in a route to Christopher Newport last week, while Maryville eeked out a 3 point win over a tough Shenandoah team. For this game, i am going against conventional wisdom and picking the Cougars to win on the road. It's going to be a fun week....Go Panthers!
