Ferrum Looks to Stop the Trend

It has been a while since Ferrum defeated Emory and Henry. Specifically, it was September 9th, 2005, and the Panthers defeated the Wasps 29-13. 2005 was not only the last time Ferrum beat Emory and Henry, but it was the last time the Panthers made the DIII playoffs. In the 2005 match up, Ferrum employing mostly a ground attack, ran all over the Wasps piling up  348 rushing yards. Quarterback Jermaine Pitts led the rushing attack with 132 yards on 15 carries.

In the years since, Ferrum has struggled to stop the Emory and Henry offensive attack.  Last year, Ferrum's D gave up 45 points to the Wasps. 379 yards came through the air, accounting for 4 of their touchdowns.

With graduation taking a toll on Ferrum's defensive backfield, the ability to shut down the pass will be key to the Panthers success, not only with Emory and Henry, but with everyone. Wasp Quarterback Kyle Boden will return for his Senior season, and will look to again fill the air with passes.

I look for another high scoring game, but expect the Panthers to learn from last year, and may possibly be ready to stop the trend of losses to the Wasps.
