Ferrum Looks to Improve on 2014....
It Will Not Be an Easy Road

As the 2015 season approaches, The Panthers find themselves coming off of one of the most frustrating years in recent memory. While they did have bright spots, Ferrum only managed one win last season, and it was against an Averett team having a sub par year also.

As for the bright spots last year, The one win could have easily been 4 or 5 if things could have worked out just a little differently. While there were games that were tough to watch, there were several that Ferrum was in and could have won.
The close losses included a four point loss to North Carolina Wesleyan, a two point loss to eventual conference champion Christopher Newport University, a ten point loss to Maryville, and a 2 point loss to Greensboro. It was a tough year, and while there will be rough patches this year, look for improvement from Ferrum.

Offensively, Ferrum will be, a mystery. I don't see the depth at this point, and have serious concerns as to who will fill the holes left by graduation.

Among the returners will be Senior Quarterback Harvey Taylor. Taylor who was featured as a running back much of last year, stepped in as quarterback at the end of the season when Tim Reynolds was lost with a broken leg. Unfortunately, Taylor suffered a serious knee injury in the last game, and how he recovers from that will have to be determined.
Troy Helton will be back, and could provide a spark, but the overall offensive outlook is cloudy right now.

Defensively, Ferrum returns Montel Lee, Rashad Johnson, Al Mathews and  Raul Gonzalez. These are 4 of last years top five in tackles. I see promising things defensively, and believe this unit will improve as the year goes on.

Recruiting has apparently gone well for Ferrum as they have landed some quality athletes. Here are some notable names that will be in camp this fall.

Nick Pearce-WR Bishop Sullivan Catholic
Zach Tickle- RB Patrick County H.S.
Matt Cloyd- K Ashbrook H.S. (NC)
Makiever Stockton- DE Magna Vista H.S.

I will pass on more as I am made aware of them.

Lastly, Ferrum College will be hosting the 2015 USA South Media Day. Thursday July 30th at 1pm. This will be the first time in my recent memory that it has been at Ferrum. Look for the 2015 coaches poll to be released that day. I will post my pre season predictions the day before.

  1. Well Allan, I see that your outlook for Good Ole FC is modest at best with some of that homer knowledge to give some flavor at best!!! I to wonder how the mighty FC Panthers perform this year. I know that you have your homer views but be real when looking at FC because from where I see them last season was horrible and now you lose your top players and reload with what??? I know all the excuses and how FC can't get players and so on but come on its tiring to see a school that had some tradition come down to this a losing tradition and excuses. I to want to see FC win and succeed but when the program cuts shady deals and never revolves in play calling how can you still back this??? And yes Allan this is the first time that FC hosts media day I just hope the video feeds work!!!! Joe From the Hood!!!
