If you are new to Ferrum football, then you may not be familiar with the history of Ferrum vs. CNU. In short, the Captains have dominated the series with a record of 13 wins and 1 loss. Except for 2003, there has been very little to cheer about for Ferrum fans. There have been some good games, but I look for Saturday's game to be one of the best in the series. Yes you can say " Well Ferrum beat Averett, and Averett beat CNU so Ferrum should beat CNU" I think what that tells you is that home field means something. This game will feature two strong passing games, and two very capable run games. This will be one of those games that can be decided by many factors, but I look for special teams to be a factor, and of course the defensive effectiveness.
CNU had three interceptions against Averett, and this will be something Ferrum has to be aware of. I look for this to be another aerial war, but for Ferrum to come out on top, they need to do three main things:
Utilize the run game to set up the pass game. Jones will have to use his legs as much as his arm.
Ferrum must get to the Captains quarterback. They have to put pressure on him all night long.
Kick and punt coverage must be strong.
Lastly Ferrum must close strong. CNU seems to be able to hang around and has been in two last minute thrillers. This is where the home crowd will help. Ferrum has to keep their foot on the gas until the final whistle.
When its said and done, I think this is a possible win for Ferrum. Its hard to know what will happen, but I look for the Panthers to be rested, fired up and hungry. A good crowd for the Panthers will be a big help.
Go Panthers!
