I had the unique experience of trying to watch the game on my phone while on an Amtrak train to New York City. Making it all the more difficult was that I was riding on the quiet car so I could only watch and not listen as I did not have earbuds.
There is not a lot to say about this loss, but I will make a few points about the way I saw things-
- Randolph Macon was coming off of a one point loss to Washington and Lee from the week before.
- Going into that game they were ranked 16th in the nation.
- They began the season ranked 17th in the d3football.com pre-season poll.
- Statistically, Ferrum out performed the Yellow Jackets in the passing game with 372 yards through the air, compared to their 263.
- Randolph Macon has an outstanding ground game and a very strong offensive line. They gained 297 yards rushing.
- Their defense against the run played a huge part in their win. Ferrum had 22 rushing yards.
In all, it is important to remember that Randolph Macon is a very strong team. They were, and I think will be again considered one of the 25 best teams in the nation. Ferrum has nothing to be ashamed of. Ferrum is not that caliber of a team..........yet. I see strong positive things happening in this program. Coach Adams and his assistants are moving the program in the right direction. One loss does not make a season, so the measure of this team for this week may just rest in their ability to put the loss behind them and prepare for a very talented Bridgewater team.
Bridgewater will be a big test for Ferrum. Focus on what is in front of you. Keep moving forward Panthers!
