LaGrange @ Ferrum

For the second game, of three in a row, Ferrum plays at home, this week hosting the LaGrange Panthers. Looking back at last year's game, Ferrum lost a close one to LaGrange on the road 44-38. This was a game that had several lead changes, but in the end Ferrum fell to 0-2. I have a feeling we can put that loss behind us and embrace anxious anticipation of tomorrow's game. First of all, I believe the team Ferrum will field is just getting their legs underneath them. They are on the upswing, and fans should see a continued improvement as the season goes on. Last week's win over North Carolina Wesleyan was the beginning of what I think will be a much-improved team that will surprise some teams in the ODAC.

LaGrange is coming off of a 70-3 loss to the Berry Vikings. Berry is a very strong team that will likely be ranked in the D3 top 25 soon. The stats from that game could be interpreted many ways, but it ended up that Berry is a superior team with few weaknesses. I am not sure how much Ferrum can learn from that game as that was LaGrange's first game, and there is only the film from that game to watch.

I look for Ferrum to employ a balanced attack of running and passing. I expect the defense to have a solid game and, in the end, defense will be the difference maker in this one. My feeling is that while this may not be a shutout, Ferrum should prevail by at least 10 points.......maybe more.

The other ODAC schools will continue their schedules as well.

Randolph Macon is 2-0, and has moved up to number 12 in the nation after a solid drubbing of Catholic.

Averett is 2-0 after wins over the Apprentice School, and Greensboro.

Guilford is 2-0 after wins over Greensboro and Methodist.

Shenandoah is 1-0 after a season opening win over Methodist. They were open last week.

Bridgewater is 1-1 after a loss to Susquehanna, and a win over Southern Virginia.

Hampden-Sydney is 1-1 after a 1-point loss to Wabash, and a win last week over Brevard.

Washington and Lee is 0-1 after a season opening loss to Salisbury.

Conference play begins September 30th for Ferrum as they will host Shenandoah.

Go Ferrum!
