This week, the Ferrum Panthers travel to Fayetteville N.C. to take on the Methodist University Monarchs. Ferrum is coming off of a big homecoming victory over Maryville College, while Methodist lost this past week to the Averett Cougars 31-17. Methodist 1-4 (0-2) is in a rebuilding year, and has its lone victory over Campbell University who is in it's first year of football.
Ferrum and Methodist have two common opponents so far, Averett, and Emory and Henry. The Panthers defeated Averett 30-9, and lost to Emory and Henry 26-21. Methodist, in addition to the loss to Averett, also fell to Emory and Henry 23-7.
On paper, Ferrum 5-1 (3-0) should win. Statisticly, Ferrum is ranked higher in most all categories than Methodist. The most telling category is Ferrum is ranked 1st. in the conference in rushing offense, and Methodist is ranked 8th in rushing defense. Nationally its an even larger difference. Ferrum's rushing offense is ranked 15th in the nation, while Methodist is ranked 203rd in defense against the rush.
The keys to the win for Ferrum will be to maintain the consistency they have show thus far. They must minimize penalties, and maintain time if possession. This game must be taken seriously, and the Panthers must not be complacent. Every game is a must win situation if Ferrum has any hopes of claiming the USA South championship.
My prediction :
Ferrum 38
Methodist 10
