A Quiet Confidence

I recently attended a Ferrum College alumni function that was attended by Men's Basketball Coach Bill Tharp,  Ferrum Head Football Coach David Harper, and by Assistant Football Coach Bobby James. It was a chance for alumni to gather and congratulate Coach Tharp on his teams amazing season where his men's program finished 23-5. The men's basketball program had, at one time, an eleven game winning streak, and fell in overtime to the eventual conference champion North Carolina Wesleyan. "We were one play short" Coach Tharp commented. It was a tough way to end, but the future looks bright for Ferrum in the upcoming season.

Of course I spent a good deal of time talking to Coaches Harper and James, and I was able to ask a few questions about the upcoming season. I was pleased to hear that they have had a good recruiting campaign, and have some transfers that will be very helpful. There are question marks about certain areas, but overall, I got the feeling that things are falling into place, and while a lot of it depends on who shows up for camp in August, Ferrum will field a team to be reckoned with this season. There was a quiet, almost unspoken confidence. There are questions still to be answered, but I have a good feeling about this year. Time will tell, but we are fast approaching August...the start of camp, and kickoff in September.   Stay Tuned-

Go Panthers!
