As far as the defensive line goes, I feel really upbeat about the returning group. Inside you will again find Josh Oliver, and Shawn Winfrey. Oliver was the USA South Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011, and I would expect that his success will continue in 2012. Winfrey will be returning for his Senior season, and look for the experience he brings to provide, along with Oliver, a solid deterant to running backs. Winfrey was all conference honorable mention in 2011.
The defensive ends will again be showcased by 2011 USA South all conference first team selection, Chris Freycinet. On the opposite end of the line will be another USA South all conference first team selection, Lynwood Pickett. Pickett, and Freycinet were a tough combination for opposing offensive units. Look for them to again provide plenty of headaches to opposing offensive coordinators.
Overall, Ferrum looks very strong along the defensive front. If there is one concern, it may be depth.
