Panthers Face a Difficult Stretch of Games

As Ferrum enters week 3 of their schedule, they are facing an important stretch of games. Starting with Southern Virginia University, Ferrum can expect three tough opponents over the next four Saturdays.

Southern Virginia University (1-1) is coming off a big win over North Carolina Wesleyan, and has steadily improved over the last several years. This is an important game for the Panthers, and while it should end up a win, taking this team lightly would be a big mistake. They have the potential to put up points, especially through the air. Ferrum has the tools to get a "W", and should be 2-1 after this game, but they must play a complete game, and minimize mistakes.

Averett is playing inspired football, and is very much under the radar. They are 0-2 currently, but their losses have come at the hands of two of the best ODAC teams. Randolph- Macon defeated the Cougars 21-6, and Hampden-Sydney defeated Averett 20-6. This is the same H-SC team that led Christopher Newport 42-0 last Saturday. While the Cougars defense looks very strong, their offense seems somewhat ineffective. This game could be a defensive struggle, and could come down to a last possession field goal for the win.

Christopher Newport University will be the third opponent that Ferrum will face in this stretch. No real explanation needed here. They represent the No. 1 pick in the coaches poll, and have enjoyed much success over most all of the USA South teams, including Ferrum. The fact that Ferrum has to travel to Newport News will not make their task any easier. While CNU has gone 0-2, so far, do not let the goose egg fool you. They have played 2 very strong teams.
A win here for the Panthers would really shake things up in the conference. The task is difficult to say the least, but all three are winable for Ferrum. My hope is that all of Ferrum's attention is focused only on this weeks opponent...So. Virginia University.
