USA South Results Interesting To Say The Least

Well week one is in the books, and while Ferrum did not get into the win column, they were not alone. In fact, only 2 teams in the conference won on Saturday. Interestingly enough, it was last season's eighth and seventh place teams that won. Greensboro defeated Guilford, and North Carolina Wesleyan beat Ohio Northern. While the Greensboro game was not a real surprise, the Bishops win did provide me with a head scratching moment. I did expect Wesleyan to improve, but have them finishing 4th.....right now, I think I may be off the mark with that prediction, but time will tell. Ohio Northern is usually a solid program, and this win for the Bishops, albeit an overtime win, is big, and should get the attention of the other conference teams.
Speaking of other conference teams, Averett made a good showing against a solid Hampden-Sydney team. Although they fell 20-6, holding H-SC to 20 points is an accomplishment.... Averett may be under rated in my predictions.
CNU's loss to Salisbury was not a shock. The Gulls are ranked 6th in this week's D3football.com poll.
Maryville showed well against a strong Huntingdon team. While they lost, they put up 33 points
It will be an interesting season, and I think there will be upsets this year.....Hang on for a fun ride.
