Ferrum Comes From Behind
Holds On to Defeat Tornados

This one was closer than I ever thought it would be, as Ferrum found themselves in a battle the entire day. As I could not watch the game on the Internet as I was working, and to watch a replay, you have to pay $4.00, I am writing this from reviewing the stats.

Statistically, this was a very interesting game. First of all, the lead changed hands five times. and while the Tornado's did utilize a heavy passing attack, (19 of 34 for 190 yards), they were matched by the Panthers as Zack Clifford was 11 of 23 for 196 yards. As similar as the passing statistics were, the rushing stats were very very different. Ferrum's rushing totals were 33 attempts for 219 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Brevard on the other hand rushed the ball 40 times, but only gained 32 yards on the ground. They did have two rushing touchdowns however.

Brevard ran a total of 74 plays gaining 222 yards on offense. They averaged three yards a play. Ferrum ran 56 plays, and gained 415 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per play.
Ferrum lost the time of possession war as Brevard had the ball 39:55 to the Panthers time of possession of 20:05, but obviously did more with their opportunities.

Brian Mann continued his dominance on the ground with 27 carries for 193 yards and two touchdowns. For the season, Mann has 988 yards 12 yards short of 1000 with three games remaining.
He set the school record last year for the most yards gained in a season with 1453. That total broke the record of former Panther great Chris Warren. Warren ran for 1443 in 1988.
Mann needs 466 yards to break his own record, and set the mark for the second year in a row. I look for that record to fall against Maryville, the last game of the season. Going into the Brevard game, Mann was ranked 19th nationally in yards gained.

So Ferrum will travel to Fayetteville North Carolina next Saturday to take on the Methodist Monarchs. Methodist is allowing 41 points per game through 7 games. Look for this Methodist team to come out with an upset in mind. Be careful Panthers, anything can happen.....just ask Averett who lost to N.C.Wesleyan Saturday 21-15. If Ferrum can win out, and Averett loses one more, Ferrum will
likely take second place in the conference.

Go Panthers!
