In what has to be described as "No Big Surprise," Ferrum fell to the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon this past Saturday 52-10. The Yellow Jackets were undefeated and came into the game a top 20 team in the country. Ferrum looked great on their opening drive, covering 74 yards in nine plays, and going up 7-0 with 10:52 left in the first quarter. It was a beautiful drive that culminated with a 14-yard pass from Josh Luckett to Ryan Downer, and with the Seth Deaton extra point, the Panthers took the early lead. Unfortunately, Ferrum would not find the end zone again, and within just over 7 minuets, R-MC would tie the game 7-7. There would be no more scoring in the first quarter, but by halftime the Yellow Jackets would have added four more touchdowns to take a 35-7 lead into the locker room. By the end of the third quarter, R-MC led 42-7.
Seth Deaton would add a field goal in the last period and Randolph- Macon would get ten more points leading to the final score of 52-10. It was a long day for Ferrum and would only get worse as they learned after the game, of the loss of a teammate in an automobile accident.
Ferrum College Mourns Loss of Will Patterson
For the Panthers, a long season is about over, but not without the preparation for the final game of the season against Averett. This game will put Ferrum in a position they have only seen one other time this season. The position of being the favorite. It will be a very emotional day, as they will have their first home game without # 19 Will Patterson. This will be tough enough to deal with but also added to the fact is that this will be Senior Day, and 15 Seniors will strap on the Black Hat for the last time. It's likely the last time they will wear a football uniform.... something they have probably done since childhood.
Yes Saturday, will be an emotional day, but the best way to deal with this is to get the win. Get the win for this is the right way to end a season. Get the win for the fans and the classmates, Get the Win for the Seniors, and Get the Win for Will. Will yourselves to win!
Go Panthers!
