Bridgewater @ Ferrum

As the colors change, and the season starts to wind down, Ferrum returns home to Adams Field with a well-deserved win from last week. In a game that saw Ferrum show strong on both sides of the ball, Ferrum and Guilford went from a scoreless first quarter to a 17-7 Ferrum halftime lead. The third quarter saw a 10-point output by the Quakers leave the score tied at 17, only for Ferrum to come back strong in the final quarter with 14 points and a 31-17 win. This win, had to give a boost to the team parents and fans. To that point, Ferrum had not found the W column, so this past Saturday was quite special.

This last game could only be celebrated so long however as the team would have to turn its attention back to the game ahead. This week the Eagles of Bridgewater come to town. Bridgewater comes into the contest with a 6-1 record, with their only loss coming to then 19th ranked and undefeated Randolph- Macon Yellow Jackets. Bridgewater statistically offers a fairly balanced attack. They have run the ball 246 times this season gaining 917 yards. They have scored 14 times on the ground. The passing game is strong also. As a team they have attempted 203 passes, connecting on 117 passes with only 4 interceptions. The Eagles have scored 10 passing touchdowns and have gained 1307 yards.

Conversely, Ferrum has run the ball 258 times, gaining 1028 yards on the ground. Ferrum has scored 9 rushing touchdowns. From the air, Ferrum has 103 completions out of 202 attempts with 8 interceptions, 3 passing touchdowns, and 959 passing yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ferrum is giving up an average of 193 yards on the ground to their opponents, and Bridgewater is giving up 135 yards on the ground to their opponents. Through the air, Ferrum is giving up 230 yards through the air, while the Eagles are yielding 207 yards per game. Each defense has 9 interceptions on the season.

Going by the records would elicit concern by any Panther fan, but if you dig into the numbers, this may not be all that one sided. Ferrum has a couple of important advantages in that they tasted victory, and I am quite sure they liked the flavor. The other is that they are playing at home.

In the end, Ferrum has to increase their output even more against this team......on both sides of the ball. Again, it will take a complete team effort to be competitive. Ferrum can pull the upset, but they need breaks. The offensive line seemed much improved last week, and they will need to be even more improved this week. The defense will need to create turnovers. Bridgewater has only fumbled three times this season, losing one of those. It will not be easy, but it is not impossible. Play hard to the end, and let's get the win!

Go Panthers!
