The Panthers take to the road Saturday, to take on the Guilford Quakers. Neither team is off to the start they had hoped, but both teams had strong outings last week. While Ferrum had their best outing of the season in their ten-point loss to Washington and Lee, Guilford gave Shenandoah all they wanted, before falling to the Hornets, 38-35.
How this game will end is difficult to say, but it's obvious, Guilford found some traction last week. Most of the load was on quarterback Bailey Baker, and did he ever deliver. He was 29 of 47 with 2 int's, and 452 yards with 4 TD's Simply put, the Panthers will need to stop the Guilford offensive attack, and in order to do that, they must stop Bailey.
I look at this as a game that Ferrum can win. Guilford has only one win, and if the Ferrum defense can disrupt the flow of the Quaker offense, I think Ferrum will come away with the win. Look for Josh Luckett to get his second start at quarterback, and I think with one game under his belt and a week of practice to continue familiarization with the system, the offense will hopefully be more productive.
It is quite possible that this could be a close game, but if the Quaker offense is as productive as last week, Ferrum will need to match their intensity to keep pace. The defense must stay strong for all four quarters. and the offense needs to control the ball and score in the red zone. This can be a win for Ferrum, but they have to play a complete game.
