Ferrum's Homecoming Provides Tall Task for Panthers

Homecoming is always a special day at Ferrum. Many friends and alumni re-connect, and it all takes place at the base of Ferrum mountain with its fall colors hopefully on full display. I have been to many homecomings, and today looks to be shaping up as a beauty. Unfortunately, I cannot get there this week.

As for the game, Ferrum will play host to the Generals of Washington and Lee. W&L (4-1) are coming off of a 31-6 win over Guilford, and Ferrum 0-5 is recovering from their loss to Hampden-Sydney College.

In short, Ferrum is needing to improve on both sides of the ball....and not just a little bit. After a stunning 9-3 loss to the Captains of Christopher Newport, W&L has reeled off four straight wins. In those four wins, they have averaged about 36 points per game while giving up an average of 5 ppg.

Overall, it appears that the Generals do most of their damage on the ground. While they do not have a one-dimensional offense, they seem to prefer the ground attack. Their defense has been stellar to this point and will give a huge test to the Ferrum offense. Look for Ferrum to also employ a rushing effort led by Zac Smiley. It would appear that the Generals would have the edge, but with a home crowd, a strong consistent effort on both sides of the ball, and the opportunity of turnovers, anything could happen. If Ferrum can keep it close, you could see a huge upset.

Enjoy Homecoming, Wish I was there.
